Part 1 of my Chambolle-Musigny indulgence this weekend. Michelot is just an amazing producer and has a tremendous ability to impart a sense of place in his wines! I have really enjoyed his Gevrey Chambertin before and now this.. decanted for 3 hours. Bright Ruby color, Platinum hue on the rim. Medium viscosity. On the nose it was fresh red cherries, strawberries, raspberries and then to spices like rosemary, cloves and then the earthiness with wet forest floor and stones. Confirmed all on the palate. It was such a delicate and multi-layered wine with exceptionally long finish. Day 2, this bottle was singing. I picked up white flowers and Minty/eucalyptus tones on the nose and it tasted even better. Dry wine, medium to medium plus acidity that stayed through to the finish, medium tannins that were just silky and smooth, medium alcohol that you again just don’t feel at all. This is what Pinot Noirs should be about...delicate, complex, well integrated and all layers in harmony- finessed. Simply delicious!
