2023 vintage. A whole different wine compared to the 2024 Plaisance. As in this case the Bouysselet was grafted on Merlot vines, the young vine effect doesn't play a role. Yellow, light golden colour. Intense nose with apricot, flowers, beeswax and toast. In the mouth it is powerful, with concentrated stone fruit ( apricots, peaches, prunes), subtle almond bitters, fresh acidity, and a slightly honeyed long finish. Unlike the Plaisance, this is very unique, maybe closer to Timorasso than Chenin Blanc. Producers are aiming for a Fronton Blanc Bouysselet appellation these days, which would be great for the better producers in this underestimated region. Abv. 14%.

New cuvée from Domaine Le Roc in Fronton with a confidential white varietal called Bouysselet. Organic farming on a very small plot. This is a historical white grape in Fronton and around which almost disappeared because local wineries went all in with Négrette and other international varietals (cabernet, syrah).
Minerally notes at first like crushed rocks and chalk, pear, honey, yuzu, cantaloupe, hay... This is layer after layer. Wow! The palate shows a great acid drive, honey, pear and cantaloupe, a good width and a vivid mouthfeel, some chalky notes, a very wide mid palate, with some grip, almost a tannic feel, before a long honey and pear finish with some citrusy touches that goes on for ever! Once again a superb effort by Domaine Le Roc (and a biased review by yours truly 😁)
