closed, so elegant and refined. 13% alcohol. wonderful purity and freshness. so round and deep. but my goodness this was closed. some purple fruits and so so finesse driven. now with air and huge fruit and darker fruits. insane purity now. great freshness. killer length. great energy and depth.

Jul 21st, 2023Brilliant! I love 21 Red Burgs! Nose is deep red cherry, light raspberry, gorgeous earthiness, cherry flower and you can sense there’s a lot more under there. Really aromatic but there is more. Palate is concentrated and backwards. But great acidity and red fruit freshness. Really long but at the moment this is showing 5% of itself. So juicy and textured with just gorgeous pitter patter of ripe tannins and amazing fruit sap and density. Really compelling wine. But i’ll be back. With air the nose is so crazy. Soup of pinot noir but so clear and feral. I adore this. Best Valencons ever. Juicy and just so pure. This is dazzling wine. Nose gets so feral now. But with a cherry tree just so ready to be picked. Insane energy. So taut but juicy and structure to burn.

Jun 6th, 2023Always a value and in 19 a superstar value. Deep, penetrating nose. Huge black cherry, dark red cherry, cherry skin, backed up by unreal minerality. So clear and deep. Much more serious than the Cabottes. Spice and earth. The full Burgundian symphony. Such a sappy nose. 9.4 nose. Just brilliant! Wow, what concentration and purity. Unreal. So sappy and pure but so fresh. Insane tiny berry fruit intensity. So so good. Structured as well and seems slightly clipped on the back end for now. But air will surely cure that. As I just took a sip the finish is extending and expanding as is the back palate and that gamey note comes through. Best version of this ever. A benchmark.

Wonderful texture impressive density and energy. Mindbogglingly fresh and mineral coated tannins and loads of black and blue fruits that echo on the long finish. Really impressive wine and will age wonderfully for 10 years or so. Concentrated, sappy and deep.

It always surprises me when scents takes me back. This wine took me back to the Pinot Noir that got me obsessed with Pinot Noir: a 1978 Antonin Rodet Santenay, drunk in 1982 when I was 22.
Super sappy, rich, tangy dark cherry essence on the nose. A wee bit of wet earth, limestone, and spice. In the mouth it’s very tangy and minerally, with surprising acidity (which is unlike the Santenay I remembered). Not complex or deep, but, damn, this is a fun wine.

Sappy and dense with lovely purity and freshness and substantial but not imposing structure. Insane fruit in the palate that is vivid, energetic and startlingly pure. Long fruit set on the palate on the finish and a gorgeous dissipation. Awesome.

Oct 9th, 2019Lovely dark cherry and spice, earthy and so mineral. Very precise. Palate is silky and ripe, with lovely purity and crunchy fruit. So suave and stylish. Deep and penetrating fruit and lovely elegant structure. Terrific wine.

Apr 11th, 2019Big ebullient nose. Black cherries, licorice, a lipstick like stank, red cherries, spice, very detailed and refined. Tree bark, cardamon. So lovely and pure. Palate is structured and deep and drinks more like a very good village wine than anything. Amazing freshness and such purity. Rustic where it needs to be and polished where it needs to be. Terrific fruit and stunning concentration. This is such a smoking value and can and will age 10+ years. Sappy and with giving and ripe tannins. This bats way way way above what this should. Awesome. Long. So so deep.

Nov 20th, 2018Big ripe sunshine nose. Licorice, spices, deep black cherry. Smells like 2015. Really pungent and stanky aromas. Sappy and sweet with ripe and significant tannins and so much fruit. Super juicy and fresh. Could use a few years. Great HCDN.
