I was delighted to find Maison Bleue's tasting room in downtown Walla Walla on my last visit, and even more surprised to taste the Domaine J. Meuret Les Chênes Pinot Noir 2013, the inaugural vintage of this label, all of which are single vineyard wines made by Jon Meuret. The quality is outstanding—expressing pie cherries, cranberries, morels and sweet leaf tobacco which fall well below perfumy rose petals and fragrant dried mint. It's weightless and light, with an understory of fine tannins lending structure to grace.

I need more willpower to hold onto a few of these to see how well they age.

A small batch Oregon Pinot from another Washington winemaker. This 2014 is light on color and rich back-of-throat flavor. Tasty little number from Maison Bleue. 100% Dijon and Pommard clone.

If Walla Walla, Washington is new to you, winemaker Jon Mueret is a guy you are going to want to get to know. He is making lovely Rhone style wines. Two labels Maison Bleue, and Domain Mueret

2014 vintage. Still young and a bit primary, but has a distinct smokeyness, blue fruits and a savory finish. Upward potential here. Very nice.

Jammy nose of raspberries and currants along with slight tannins and herbal notes on the palate. Nice

Disappointing. Very thin, almost watery, body. Delicate red fruit flavors with an abrupt finish. Tasty, but lacking interest. Maybe needs time to develop because there just isn't much going on right now.

Surprisingly good for the disappointing 2013 vintage in Oregon. Smokey and savory red fruits with great balance and a solid finish. Bravo.
