Domaine Fourrier
Vieilles Vignes Gevrey-Chambertin Pinot Noir
There's something fiery in its heart, meaty in its depths, chewy in its texture. And carnal in its nature.
While he might be writing about a different varietal altogether, I felt this line from Andrew Jefford perfectly captured the wine. It was floral, earthy, salty, meaty, and wildly textured. The words “furry” and “velvet” came to mind. “Carnal” and “feral” rang true, yet the fruit could not have been any cleaner and brighter. And perhaps most importantly, it was mighty digestible and downright reinvigorating. For me, a decade old and at its absolute peak.

Sooooo much potential and joy ahead for this wine.

Sep 11th, 2021Love me some Fourrier! Sadly never get to have it as much as I’d like. So perfumed with so much clarity. This wine is all about finesse to me, flavors and aromas are crystalline, tasting under a microscope. Ripe black cherry, pomegranate, rhubarb and blood orange. Sandalwood and violet, turned soil and ferns.

Plus veau village dégusté. Tout en jeunesse mais le fruit dans ce jus est complètement déstabilisant. Wow. Impressionnant !

My first encounter with Fourrier, and I am sad to say that I'm underwhelmed. Elegant and silky, certainly, with lovely black cherry and raspberry fruit. But marred on days 1 and 2 by huge amounts of sulfur (even after decanting) and showing plenty of spice but no Gevrey character. For $100 I expect a village wine to show village character. This could have passed just as easily for a high quality Bourgogne. I look forward to being convinced about Fourrier in the future.
