Chatus Coteaux De L'Ardèche Red Rhone Blend

Only three estates in the world still grow Chatus all of which are located in the Ardeche in the south of France. This ancient grape has notes of ripe cherries and stewed black berries with floral hints of lavender.

Bright palate with cherry, baking spices and red raspberry. Medium-full bodied, dry and a long finish with notes of strawberry and green bell peppers on the palate. Pretty high tannins, could use some mellowing out.

Spicy, dry potpourri , pastrami meat nose. Soft round palette. Delicious subtle fruit integrates well with coy acidity and tannin. Great Rhone. A hidden gem.

Chatus in the house! Cherries, lavender, herbs de Provence! Fun wine if you can find it!

Sept 28, 2019. J2’s 5th bonus year celebration. Found this rare grape at our small town local grocery (???). My first Chatus experience. Lovely. Deep red, almost black in color. Tart cherries, nice finish.

I like this wine a lot. The relation to Nebbiolo is very much apparent with the purple flowers and strong tannic structure. Looking forward to trying more of this varietal!
