Domaine de l'Ecu (Guy Bossard)
Mephisto Cabernet Franc
Nose is a combo of manure, herbals and cherries. Palate is so juicy and joyful. Velvety tannins. Sweet fruit and such finesse. Showing so well but has some years in it.

May 24th, 2024Amazing. Big and beautiful nose with a lean body. Day 3 and it’s gorgeous. Little floral violet and black currant and juicy crunchy acids. Think this is going to stun in 5-10 years.

Nov 25th, 2019Killer vintage for this. Gorgeous nose of mineral, bright cherry fruit, complex spice, resin, pine, cherry, sappy, glorious, palate has high acid, deep fruit and lovely freshness. Obviously young but so promising. Juicy and very long. Needs 5 years.

Nov 22nd, 2017God. I loved when this was natural winemaking. Whatever Fred was doing in 2015, it was magic. I remember loving this bottle so much when I had it in 2017, I bought 3 to cellar, even though it was $50 and I didn’t know the producer and it was cab franc grown in sh-t terroir. And now I wish I’d bought a case. This has a vibrancy when you first smell it that’s indescribable. Even though it smells of manure and horse stable in a low key, cool way. When the roses and violets and berries hit, well damn. The fruit is so ripe, but cool. Completely generous but also still young, built like a fortress, and with the most ghostly pleasant tannins. The palate is so clean, sweet, cool and complex. Ethereal and transparent. What a joy! I will struggle to resist but I think i should wait 10 years to open the next of my last two bottles!
Glad I opened this for delectable post 1,000.

Black plum, dark cherries and dark floral bouquet on the nose. It's similar to Gamay. The fruit is sweet. Dark cherries, plum, poached strawberries & pomegranate. The fruits are a little sweet & a touch syrupy. Melted dark chocolate. The dark rich earth is there but it's soft and elegant. The acidity is lovely. The finish is rich, full, long & elegant. Really nice wine that most would not call Cab Franc blind. Most would say gamay including many Somm's. Label has that "Hellboy" look.
