Light ruby with tawny rims. Translucent. Huge bouquet hits your nose right away. Ripe cherry, rose petal, menthol, smoke, salt, suis bois. At open this was light and watery in the mouth with very little fruit, overwhelmed by big structure and dry tannin. After 1.5 hrs a huge body of complexity developed and some fruit notes balanced nicely against the nice but not super great finish. This wine has a 98 pt nose which is its best feature tonite.

1987 Richebourg. Dinner w JW & AC at Cap. K was worried since this was on “off vintage.” Didn’t decant. Poured in glass and it was just really thin. However, as the night progressed, this drank really, really well and the wine totally transformed. Both Joe and K said they want to buy more.
