Hot 2009 wasn't my favorite vintage, and I assumed this Mercurey I forgot in the cellar would be over the hill by now. I was wrong. Still a little closed on the nose, showing little but very fresh violet and darker red fruits. The palate was a little more generous, if fearsomely tannic, in its taut raspberry and tart cherry and earthy black tea flavors. I wish I'd waited longer, and it wasn't unenjoyable, just very surprising that this is still so sturdy and reserved. Apparently I need to buy a lot more from this producer.
