This bottle was a great learning experience. Purity is the theme here. The wine was closed aromatically on opening but explosive in the mouth; a fireworks show with a finish that rang on and evolved endlessly as it went down. By day 2 and 3 the wine was completely muted all around with a dense lingering minerality without the explosive energy. Vineyard with no top soil and limestone bedrock all the way to the surface. Firstly most clear experience I’ve had to wonder if this is ‘should be’ a Chardonnay vineyard rather than Pinot. Regardless I’ll take this for what it was as when it was cracking it was cracking and I have a feeling this wine could go quite a while integrating all that complexity. Will not likely touch another for a few more years no doubt and be on the hunt for older vintages and different producers.
