Domaine Billard-Gonnet
Pommard-Rugiens Bas 1er Cru Pinot Noir
Yowza. This is magnificent. Nose is cherry compote, confectionery aromas, huge stoney minerals and so much complexity. Cherry pit with some black cherry flesh left on it. Just bitten cherry basically. Man it’s so stoney. So old school and so expressive. One of my favorite bottling in Burgundy. Palate is super complex with just so much going on. Amazing depth. Deep deep ocean here. Sappy and concentrated with just incredible palate cleansing minerality. Wow. So elegant and perfectly balanced. Yes it’s young but it’s not inaccessible. Which is the key when drinking young wine. This nose keeps expanding and expanding. Stunning. Velvety and sweet tannins and they are abundant but ripe. Can’t wait to journey with this as the night progresses.

Jan 22nd, 2022Wow. Sickness. I adore Rugiens from Billard-Gonnet. Stunning. 9.8 nose. Stoney, complex, ethereal. So so good. What it’s all about. Floral, spice. Multi dimensional. So complex. Wow, big tannins, big concentration. And big elegance. Insane fruit. Grippy and intense. Wowsers. Nose has a wonderful animal/sauvage element. Amazing old vine grip, sap and concentration. Rugiens when young is like a black hole on the palate. It absorbs. A stunner. A decade too young but whatever!

Aug 20th, 2021Stoney, raspberry, cherry heaven. Pure fruit. Youthening up. Wide open and so so complex. Sickness. Very very perfumed. Savory. Wow, what a palate. Massively concentrated and deep. Superb cherry pastille fruit. Dank and deep. Big structure and stoniness. Finish is super longer.

May 31st, 2020Insane complex, huge licorice, spice, mineral, dead leaves, anise, red and black licorice, mid season cherry, wow, what a palate, huge tannins, fruit, minerals, stunning purity, deep, packs a wallop, this is stunning, wow. Opens up and emits a huge Burgundian stank. Ridiculous.

Aug 4th, 2019I went long on these (for me) as this was a top 13. Amazing nose. All rocks and raspberry crushed on those rocks. Spice, mint and mineral. So perfumed and clean. So pure. Palate is intensely concentrated with huge grip, freshness and such explosive pure fruit. So sappy. Immense wine but graceful and refined and not impenetrable. Incredible finish. A baby now but still delicious and better in 5 years.
