Les Carrètals Minervois Carignan

Slight reduction at first, but the ample, vivid red and purple fruits take over on the nose, and charm you right away with plum and blackberry scents. Glossy black licorice, and a licorice texture on the palate, plus a resonant, lightly toasted cacao note. Also tamarind, fruit leather, and salted caramel on the finish. Spicy tannins linger, and a hint of confectionary, exotic perfume emerges only after an hour or so. Subtle shades of purple extraction on this precise, elegant wine. A master class in Carignan. Just stunning.

Could use a little more age, but super delicious.

2011. I think Anne gros style is implemented here. Aromatic nose but mild palate. Burning tires at opening that fades away after 2 hours decanting. Good depth on the nose, tannin a bit raw right now. Age 3 more years? Buy.

Pouring some out for mothers but holy shit the aromatics are incredible after 20 mins of air.

Dense, weighty, and primary. Wish I could taste with some air.

This nose has gone toward burgundy

The power. Dark, brooding and awesome.

This will be sublime in five years…
