Domaine Anita
Cuvée P'Tit Co Les Brureaux Chénas Red Blend
This is global warming Beaujolais. Broad, relatively low/toned flavor profile, very low acids. Nose is sultry and dark, with rich dark berry ooze and lots of granitic minerality. Maybe even some bakers’ chocolate, which I don’t appreciate in this type of wine (or most wines, for that matter, as I see it as an effect of overripeness). Dark, chocolatey, and fruity flavors on the palate initially, with some crushed granite, though it’s a little overwhelmed. Some grainy tannin, whose effect is diminished by the thick-ish texture. This is a logical step up for people who like California reds with focus-group chosen cutesy names. Still, the granite keeps me from rating it too low.

Jul 1st, 2021Opened yesterday, sat on the counter overnight. Loads of ripe strawberry on the nose, followed by black pepper and the softest touch of cherry pit. On the palate: good acidity, denser than I expected with soft plum and cherry, with a touch of cherry pit, loads of black pepper and noticeable heat. Thins out a lot on the finish, with a serious amount of chalky tannin, though still slightly watery. Pretty good, but would have preferred less heat.
