Steven Pinot Noir
Ok seriously, this wine is intensely dark fruit. Plums, currents. The aroma is incredible and the taste is long lasting loveliness.

Sep 10th, 2023A dense dark ruby color in the glass. Evidence of bricking with a bit of rust on the edges. The nose is still fresh and kicking with spice and potpourri up front. Customary earthy notes with a little overgrown underbrush and funk. Over time, the fruit begins to shine through with plenty of blackberries and blueberry cobbler. Cherry compote and just the faintest whiff of citrus fruit.
Distinctively Californian, this definitely reminds you of how nice Pinot Noir can be from there. Single vineyard Pinot from the aptly named Dierberg Vineyard in the Santa Maria Valley. Even at fourteen years there’s still plenty of liveliness and energy. At 14.1 the alcohol isn’t too hot and has receded over the years. Rich and full but never heavy or overbearing. Smooth in the mouth with more earthy notes and warm spice. The fruit is a bit more generous on the palate than you may expect with more red and blue fruits all in proportion. The finish is long and juicy. A pretty stellar Pinot but now is the time to drink up if you’ve got any.

Jul 12th, 2020After being stored on its side in cellar conditions for the last 6 years, this cork fell apart upon opening. The wine is excessively oaked, to the point where I struggled to find fruit. The wine also lacks acid, and has a shockingly short finish considering the persistence of the nose. It stood up well to a spicy mac'n'cheese with turkey after being open 24 hrs, mainly bc the fruit came out and stood up to the savory flavors. Overall, this wine is difficult to take as pinot noir with almost all varietal characteristics muted by the new oak. Not for me.
