Dark red with evolution to ruby and slight browning at the edge. Sweet, jammy dark fruit (blueberries, blackberries) in the nose, after swirling cocoa, coffee and oak, with a distinctive hint of fresh rosemary. Rich, full-bodied, sweet black fruit and spices, good acidity to balance the noticeable alcohol. Powerful, but soft tannin and a bitter chocolate, alcohol-driven finish. Not a very elegant wine, but has character. Retasted it again the next day: oak seemed more obvious and spices dominating the fruit. 2009 vintage, 15,5% abv., 50 euro (about 56 $)

Sep 22nd, 2016It's been almost a year (http://goo.gl/vSGnF) since I tasted this serious value from Lake County. While not cheap ($45), it tastes like it costs 2-3x as much.
