Daniel Barraud
La Verchere Vieilles Vignes Pouilly-Fuissé Chardonnay
2007 | Chardonnay
Daniel Barraud; La Verchère VV
Burgundy; Maconnais, Poiully-Fuissé, France
(92-94; drink 2017-27+)
Nose has recently cut yellow apple, fresh pineapple, cane sugar and faint beeswax.
Palate has tart/under-ripe pineapple/yellow apple, lemon zest with mild chalky notes; plenty of acid to keep the palate lively. A great vintage for white Burgundy; A standout bottle from a heavily diminished case.
Paired with boneless chicken thighs, gnocchi, Parmesan cream sauce and kale from the garden (picked today, January!).

15YO...Not in my view on aged wines, what a fantastic P-F; Prior notes on 2007 vintage still apply. Drinking perfection, glad we buy and cellar in volume.

Sep 2nd, 2022Nose has bruised yellow apple, candied pineapple, dehydrated papaya, cold butter and dry masonry sand.
Palate has ripe pineapple, ripe yellow apple, dried lemon zest, faint tangerine notes with lively acidity. Notes at 45m open.
Another 15 year old Chardonnay tonight is still going very strong.

Not really any new notes, some dried pineapple in the mix now, still a wonderful bottle. Slow ox'd for 3H, showing better then prior bottles.
Audouze Method is going to be my total go-to way when opening older bottles...

Happy Thanksgiving to all of the Delectable family.
Good wine, good food, good to see family again, good to hear a favorite song about '...twenty-seven eight-by-ten color glossy pictures with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back...' all makes for a perfect afternoon.
Nose has cold caramel candy, baked yellow apple, faint green herbs, warm butter and saturated oak barrel.
Palate has toffee chips, under-ripe yellow apple, baked apple, dried lemon, dried pineapple, great acidity with medium finish; still holding strong.
Good storage means everything to longevity.

Just concluded the annual Fall seclusion at our cabin in the Rangeley lakes region of Maine, mobile service up there is mostly non-existent, after several days I am posting again.
(Notes this year were avoided, but scores are honest.)

No notes, a quiet celebration for my wife and me as I have successfully ticked another box in the years-on-planet category today. Feeling older...I think.
Barraud 2006 La Verchère VV Pouilly-Fuissé, I promise I'll get to notes on this 2006 vintage at some point, we have plenty more to go still. Lightly honeyed on nose & palate, in a decent spot. Decanted 90m.

On the Lawn at Tanglewood this evening with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Our Conductor Anna Rakitina (BSO’s Assistant Conductor) is leading Elena LANGER (Figaro Gets a Divorce, Orchestral Suite), RAVEL (Piano Concerto in G) and ELGAR (Opus 36, Enigma Theme). The soloist for the piano concerto tonight is none other than Jean-Yves Thibaudet, our absolute favorite pianist (or piano-player as Emanuel Ax has been noted to say because he thinks the traditional term sounds funny when spoken), a never-to-be-missed event for us whenever he plays these hallowed grounds. (In 2004 Jean-Yves served as president of the Hospices de Beaune, factoid for any wine nerds who are also classical music nerds.)

First post-covid dinner with a dear buddy; No notes this evening, I promise notable notes on future bottles.
