Starting to fall in love with these Montepulciano reserves. This is a great one. Dark penetrating extracts of prune and dark tart cherry that unfold in your mouth like a 500 page book. Subtle, fine grained tannins carry the wine for a 3 minute lingering finish. Montepulciano wines are made from a special Sangiovese selection called Prugnolo gentile, a smaller berry with thinner skin than the larger berries from the Sangiovese grosso selection used in Brunello wines from Montalcino. Destiny flavor, needs a bit of an acquired taste , but once adapted they become addictive.

Aromatically fully mature, yet still decanted 4h to mellow the tannins.
Evolved aromatics in the nose with leather, tomato leaf, some sweet kirsch, a bit of tobacco leaf and Balsamico.
On the palate this is rather lean & savoury with juicy acidity and quite rustic, chewy tannins (despite the age & decant).
This is great with food (tagliata with rucola!!) and to contemplate. A touch too austere for solo sipping.
A nice Nobile though with good purity.

Fantastic wine of the region! Similar to the Riserva of the Contucci Family of Wines, this full-bodied (yet lighter) Nobile has an aromatic nose but not overpowering. A smooth and drier finish rounds out the taste! ... when did we start talking like we were professionals at this? (Maybe that's only in my mind...)
