Cigar Old Vine Lodi Zinfandel
Purple in color with a wide reddish rim.
Fruity nose of blackberries, black plums, cherries, wood, licorice, dry fruits, vanilla, spices, earth, leather, alcohol, vegetables, smoke, chocolates, mocha and peppercorn.
Full bodied, rich and smooth, with medium acidity and long legs.
Extremely fruity on the palate with blackberries, plums, cooked cherries, oak, vanilla, spices, light vegetables, chocolates, tobacco, mocha, coke, alcohol and peppercorn.
Long finish with soft tannins and black pepper.
This is a nice Zinfandel from Lodi, California. Well balanced and enjoyable by itself or with food.
Showing mild complexity and a nice mouthfeel. A little hot and spicy.
Needs a couple of hours to open up properly and remove much of the alcohol.
I had the 2012 vintage a few years ago, and this vintage is just as enjoyable. A good everyday wine, or just to sip on by the fireplace.
I paired it with a cheese plate, nuts and crackers.
15.5% alcohol by volume.
$18.

Nov 9th, 2017Cigar Zinfandel is an extremely dark wine, marked by blackberry and blueberry fruit on the nose and palate. The aromas strike me as being a little muted, especially for a Zin. Some savory smoke and tar aromas open up as the wine does. As telegraphed by the name, the smell of cigar box also works into the profile. The flavors are dominated by bold fruit, but a touch of oak spice and black pepper wraps that up in a pretty bow. Tannins are firm and useful, if you happen to have a pork chop or a lamb shank laying around.

Apr 18th, 2019An affordable but amazing wine. Perfect for pairing with a variety of foods, dark and rich. Complex flavors with smoke and fruit, not too sweet, well balanced.
