Concha y Toro
Reserva Casillero del Diablo Cabernet Sauvignon
A spare from a shoot, I wasn’t expecting to actually enjoy a glass of this with the casserole made using the rest of the bottle - but enjoy it I certainly did.
This £5 Cab Sauv from Chilean behemoth Casillero del Diablo, of which some 20 million or so bottles are produced annually, is a bright, vibrant and well made red that provides intrigue and varietal typicity. Aromas of cranberry, macerated cherry, vine tomato and pinewood are followed by a saturated palate with slightly unripe tannins but good acidity. The finish of course fades promptly, but I have to take my hat off to this achievement.
