Brief notes - at a friend’s place checking out his new cellar and generously opened this wonderful Margaret River Chardonnay. Cloudburst is the venture of American, Will Berliner, who turned the district on its head by asking prices 2 and 3 times the price of the Icons of Margaret River. It doesn’t worry Will who is able to sell much of his product into up-market restaurants in the US. This wine was initially leaner than I was expecting with citrus and ripe grapefruit. With more air nectarine and peach notes started coming through but still shows admirable restraint. All in all a class act.

Pale yellow-gold. A highly perfumed bouquet evokes fresh citrus, orchard and tropical fruits, iodine, buttered toast and pungent flowers, and a tarragon nuance builds with air. Shows superb concentration as well as energy, offering vibrant tangerine, Anjou pear, pineapple, sweet butter and anise flavors that tighten up slowly on the back half. Powerful yet graceful in style, displaying sharp definition and minerally thrust on an impressively persistent finish that features resonating floral and pear nectar flourishes. 2012 - Mealy, mineral, lemon oil, gunflint, toasty coconut oak that's not overly done. Really juicy palate, great acidity, slightly creamy apple/peachy fruit. Gorgeous stuff

This is the best Chardy going in fact managed to get a couple of pre release bottles....it's from Margaret River in Western Australia and made by an American wine maker.....get into this when it comes out but for special occasions at +$200 per bottle
