It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back!

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish/ brick rim.

Nose of red fruits with earth, light wood, spices, coffee, tobacco leaf, herbs and black pepper.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with blueberries, plums, cherries, spices, light oak, chocolates, herbs, earth and tobacco leaf.

Short finish with tangy raspberries.

This 27 year old Merlot from Carneros in Napa Valley is past its prime, but still drinkable. At this age it's more about the specific bottle, so it might just be that.

Needed an hour in the bottle to open up and remove some of the moldy smell.

This Single Vineyard Merlot is elegant with a nice mouthfeel. Complex on the palate, but not as much on the nose.

Still very drinkable, interesting to try, and a good food wine.

14.2% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

$25 (at release).
