2015 vintage. The second wine of Château La Gaffelière, a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, from vines on the lower part of the southern hills of the estate and young vines from the better spots. Aged in 1 year old barriques, no new wood. This has real understated class. The nose is still a bit shy, give it time to open up. Cassis, flowers and a subtle hint of truffle. Nicely concentrated, but gently extracted, this is all about finesse and elegance. It has impeccable balance, nice complexity and good length. This is not a showy wine, but a very classic gentleman. Lovely value at 20 euros. Abv. 14%.

Suuuuuper primary. Front loaded with fruit and spice and little else. For my palate, not ready for full appreciation. Disjointed; all knees and elbows. Quality is there for sure, just needs time. Check back in two-three years.

Medium ruby; Lovely, elegant and well balanced, showing bright black fruit and hints of mocha. Lovely wine with classic St Émilion earthiness, tobacco and minerality. Medium body - not an intense fruit bomb but so elegant and silky on the finish.

Soft yet full-bodied.. I'm sure it gets better with age..

12/20/2022: Binnys $27
T: spicy, peppery, gravel aroma. Real peppery on the tongue. Long finish.
D: light cherry taste with brick notes
Both agree soft taste with a peppery finish
T: Tannins are very subtle. 3 layers. Brick, sweet summer cherry and pepper. My favorite French wine so far
