Clos de los Siete)
Mendoza Red Blend
This is Michel Roland’s Bodega in Argentina. If you are not familiar with Michel, he has a long history as a Winemaker and now might be the largest Winemaking Consultant in the world.
We were just here about 6 weeks ago and had the new release. It was very good. However, this 06 was an amazing find at K&L a couple of weeks ago. It was $18 upon release and $40 dollars well aged. At either price, it’s ridiculously good.
On the nose, ripe, lush, dark floral; blackberries, blueberries, olallieberries, dark cherries, black plum & black raspberries. Vanilla, some cinnamon, dry & fresh herbs, hints of dark fruit liqueur, touch of pepper, soft, dark spice, powdery minerals, dry stones, rich, moist, black earth, sweet tarry notes, wood shavings, purple & blue flowers with violets.
The body is just full. The velvet glove tannins are 75% resolved. The structure, length, tension and balance are in a sweet spot. It’s delicious! The fruits are ripe, candied with a slight baked quality. Dark floral; blackberries, blueberries, olallieberries, huckleberries, dark cherries, black plum, strawberries & black raspberries. More vanilla on the palate then the nose, some cinnamon, mocha chocolate, salted caramel, dry & fresh herbs, hints of dark fruit liqueur, touch of pepper, soft, medium intensity dark spice, powdery minerals, dry stones, used leather, rich, moist, black earth, dark, sweet tarry notes, wood shavings, amazing purple & blue flowers with violets. The acidity is very close to perfect. The rich, lush, long, well balanced finish last minutes. Really good and such a steal.
The blend is; 50% Malbec, 30% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Syrah.
