Another check in with this bottle. Really good side by side with a great young Barbaresco. Polar opposite wines.

Nice wine. Lessona is one of the 7 sub zones of the Alto-Piedmonte. Volcanic soils at about 700-1200ft of elevation. There is roughly 80 acres total planted in Lessona. Clerico is the 3rd largest producer with 5(?) acres they have been farming since the 1740’s. 100% Nebbiolo, called Spanna locally. Aged 30 months in Oak and 16 months in bottle prior to release.

Unfolds slowly at first with strawberry and dried rose petals, then reveals more with air, developing leathery undertones but also bigger bolder darker fruit and sweet spice notes. The tannins are refined and the acidity is perfectly in balance. Just spectacular.

Could drink for days! Dark cherry, tobacco, leather, dried floral. Great stuff.

2006 Clerico Massimo Lessona - one of the sexiest wines I've enjoyed in a while. Aromas of dried roses, herbs and ripe cherry with a smooth silky texture of dried cherry, plum, leather and sweet tobacco. Developed nicely in the decanter for two hours. This wine is singing a beautiful harmonious tune that can be enjoyed now and over the next decade.

Great showing, structurally balanced with such focus and edge at 10 years. Tannins are super fine, acidity is bursting. Great bouquet, dried roses, dried cherries and raspberry, sarsaparilla, dust, worn leather, savory herbs, asphalt, mushroom. Theres a slight bitter note to the wine that I love on the finish.

Restrained on the nose, seems like it has some development to go through before it shows. Solid structure, tannins are present but not overblown. Softer finish. A little oxidation from age or barrel. I'll visit again in a year.

Had with Brasato al Barolo and Polenta. What a perfect Sunday dinner for a cool fall evening. I absolutely love this producer. Elegant Nebbiolo that is just so lovely and enjoyable to drink.
