Clendenen Family Vineyards
"Bricco Buon Natale" Nebbiolo
11’ Clendenen Bricco Buon Natale Nebbiolo. 5 years in 500L Hungarian oak.
Pulled the cork 2 hour ahead of me decanting it at the restaurant. Garnet in color.
Popping cherry/cedar on the nose. Red cherry, red roses, cranberries… Flashy.
Bright acidity. Medium tannins. Never would’ve guessed the wine to be 9 years old. Love Jim’s wines. 7/10 years in the bottle.

May 8th, 2019Surprising that there was no sediment in this wine given that it's a decade old. Got this for a really good price at Au Bon Climat in Santa Barbara and decided to enjoy it now. Wonderful nose of rose petals, Cooke cherries and raspberries, wet leaves and baking spices. Palate had high acidity, medium high tannins that probably mellowed out some and flavors of pomegranate and some oxidation. Just a really wonderful example of a nebbiolo done outside of Italy.

1 person found it helpfulJun 10th, 2015Tasted this at the Winery. Deep red with dried berry fruit aromas and floral scents. Aged for 6 years!! On the palate rich cherry and dried plums and complex spice notes. Well balanced with acidity and tannins. Finished long with a touch of espresso beans. Very nice! Tasting Sample.

Oct 29th, 2016Holy cow!! Can't believe how youthful and vivacious this wine still is after 17yrs. Savory dried cherry and rose petal with mature, developed tannins. Really stunning.

Oct 28th, 2015The CellarTracker drinking window says 2014-2016 for this wine and I'll be damned if it's not beautiful right now in 2015. For a new world wine it certainly has old world sensibilities, tar and roses and dried sweet cigar ash with dried cherries with a slight funky touch of rhubarb. The palate is exceptional. The tannins have softened without going flabby, the notes I get are found in the nose and highlighted, and the finish just refuses to quit. For a wine that is 17 years old (and as good as the 2005 was I had) this is stellar.
