Ichiro's Malt MWR Mizunara Wood Reserve Malt Whisky

Bought in Niseko Hokkaido in late January 2018. My first purchase of a Japanese Malt Whisky and I was mightily impressed. No small claim from a McDonald who loves Talisker Laphroig and Lagavulin!!! Compared with the Hibiki I bought duty free this Ichiros Malt was more sooty and tarry but ever so smooth. Reminiscent of Drambuie. Orange Peel and damp straw. Big price difference unfortunately. About $100 in Niseko and about $200 to $250 in Australia.

Golden blonde color. Barley, candied ginger, licorice, slightly peaty, with caramel and very subtle medicinal notes. I also get a lot of incense and cedar as well, typical of Mizunara oak. Long finish.

Smooth. Long finish.

So good. Slightly peaty. Well balanced

This was a spur of the moment purchase. Was looking for a Nikka 10 and ended up with this. Smooth, light, sweet with a gentle hint of smoke. I'm not a peaty fab but this was just bang on.
