1978 Ch Pichon-Longueville-Baron. Deep garnet color, turning brickish toward the edges. Lots of enchanting woodsy and dried fruit aromas. Crisp and still lively on the palette. Stewed fruit, spice, gravel. Very enjoyable at 40 yrs!

Jun 4th, 2018Smoking good and a big surprise as most Bordeaux in the late 70s was not good. The color was mature, but not nearly as brick as I would have expected. The nose I could smell all day and all night. Lots of perfumed red fruits, subtle spice and tertiary leathers and dried flowers. The palate was just as good and followed on from the nose, if anything a little less complex than the nose.
