Oct 12th, 20232020 vintage. A single 20 hectares vineyard within the Léoville-Poyferré estate. The name was used for the second wine Léoville-Poyferré, but it became a Saint-Julien in its own right in 2009. The 20 hectares vineyard is planted with an unusually high percentage of Petit Verdot. This 2020 is a blend of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, and 23% Petit Verdot.

Sep 26th, 20232019 vintage. Previously a label for the second wine of Château Léoville-Poyferré, but a separate estate since the 2009 vintage. Moulin Riche is a 20 hectares vineyard in one block, planted with 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot and an unusually high Petit Verdot percentage of 23%. This 2019 is a blend of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 11% Petit Verdot. It features an attractive nose with cassis, blackberry and violets. It is definitely made in the Léoville-Poyferré style (the sexiest of the 3 Léovilles) with its lush ripe fruit and perfectly ripe tannic backbone. It would be interesting to compare this to the second wine of Léoville-Poyferré. Should age well, but very attractive already. Abv. 14%.

Apr 19th, 2022Nose has cherry, ripe blackberry, leather, strawberry jam, dried cranberry, ripe plum, dry leather and moist cigar.
Palate has blackcurrant jam, ripe plum, ripe strawberry, dried cherry, cedar sawdust with firm tannins and a long finish.
A notable improvement over our prior bottle a few years back.
Cork pulled for slow oxidation for 2H, then decanted 4H, more time appreciated. Drink now or hold until 2024-28.
57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot & 10% Petit Verdot

Certainly not refined, but this 2005 Ch. Moulin Riche (at the time branded as the second wine of Léoville-Poyferré) is an earthy, gutsy Saint-Julien from a superb vintage that carries its sixteen years of age with aplomb, even from half bottle. Almost no bricking, the colour is a vibrant mid ruby.
Very funky on the nose (a little brett, I think), even with two hours of air, there’s a spicy core of cassis, blackberry, plum, cedar, even cinnamon, which is all contained within a rich palate and a framework full of tannin and energy. The finish is long, vibrant, and mouthwatering. I must say I really respect this wine. I would expect it to continue to age well.

Nose has leather, earthy strawberry, prune, cranberry and light cedar.
Palate has cherry-strawberry juice, tobacco, ripe plum, sweet flowers; soft tannins, so approachable! Drink up in the next few years, I do not believe this wine is for longer term aging, plus it's in a prime enjoyment window now!
57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot & 10% Petit Verdot
We paired this with a beautiful sirlion, cooked in the sous vide bath then finished on the stove, accompanied by roasted beets with local goat chevre. The earthiness of the beets is always a wonderful pair to Bordeaux, IMO.

Ch. Leoville-Poyferre Dinner; 16 May 2017 at Chez Nous Bistro, Lee, MA
Wow, what a beauty for a 2014 St. Julien, a short decant and it's drinking great, don't think this is set up for the long haul, suggest drinking by 2019.
