2014 vintage. 100% Sémillon. Fermented in barriques (25% new) and aged on the lees for 8 months prior to bottling. Brilliant light yellow. Oaky and vegetal nose. Very high acidity dominates the palate. Oaky finish. Disjointed and very disappointing. Abv. 12,5 %.

I'll admit, I'm always happy to have a Nicolas Thienpont wine in my glass. The Thienpont family are associated with other great Bordeaux properties including Puygueraud, Pavie Macquin and one of my personal favorites, Vieux Château Certan. The 2014 Les Charmes Godard is slightly austere, with pronounced herbaceousness. Smoky minerality swirls around boxwood, cherimoya and gooseberry notes. It's lean and racy on the palate, lightly hemmed in by oak. Here lime zest, white grapefruit, and white pepper take the center stage.

50% Semillon, 35% Sauvignon Gris, 15% Sauvignon Blanc. Taut and linear Bordeaux Blanc showing quinine, juniper berry, chamomile and lime leaf. Nary a hint of honey or oak. Blind I would have taken this to Hunter Valley.

Lean and somewhat austere. Citrus and peach on the palate; restrained minerality. Not badly made persay, but not a great value. For a lean style, I'd rather go Sancerre, and the wine does not exhibit the rich foundation typical for the region.
