Pavillon de Léoville Poyferré Saint Julien Red Bordeaux Blend

2017 vintage. 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot. Evolved colour. Easy-drinking, not very complex.

Mild bouquet of dusty dark fruit. Quick mild sour cherries upfront with a dusty fruit mild tobacco finish. Definitely old world style.

Plush second label goodness. Archetypal richness and surprisingly soft tannins, 5 years might have been the sweet spot.

Pretty deep ruby , violet rim. Quite Cabernet nose , cool blackcurrant , grafite and touch of spicy oak . Quite dry and strict on the palate , more of the dark cassis , redcurrant and grafite touches , tannin is slightly gritty, acidity is refreshing and balanced . Length is only ok , I was expecting a touch more . This comes across as slightly lacking in substance, and frankly a bit boring , and perhaps shows the limitations of the vintage , especially for second wines. Drink now and over the 5-7 years .
