Château Le Grand Moulin
Collection Grande Réserve Blaye Red Bordeaux Blend
Drank 11/12/20. Paired with Red wine Braised short ribs. Ok, but not ideal due to tomato component in the sauce.
Another Costco Value Buy. WE Went 92 on this one.
Plums, earth, some herbaceausness and pepper on the nose. Palate of plums, black cherry, wood, and pepper corn. Tomato in the food will bring out more sour cherry notes. Dry medium plus finish.
3/21/7/3/4 +50 =88 pts.

2018 vintage. Another spectacular value from the Côtes de Bordeaux, this time from Blaye. From 79 hectares of vines on sandy gravel soils. A blend of 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet sauvignon and 5% Malbec. Again I feel sorry for owner Jean François Reaud that he has to sell such a good wine at silly prices (4,95 euro consumer price!). Even at twice the price it would be great value. Subtle nose with ripe black (blueberries, cassis) and red fruits (raspberry) with a subtle floral touch. The taste is amazingly elegant, the fruit is fresh and crisp, with a good soft tannic backbone, some complexity, moderate alcohol (abv. 13%) and very good length. Extraordinary value. Vignobles Gabriel & co.

Oct 18th, 2020Smoky black and red berries, pencil shavings, potting soil, and slightly bitter dark chocolate. Firm structure that needs food. Long dry finish. I very rarely drink Bordeaux but this was recommended and really delivered.

Jan 4th, 2021This 2016 red Bordeaux was part of a quite fairly priced Costco quartet, in a handsome little crate. Wine Enthusiast rated it 92 points. I’m afraid I disagree. Vin ordinaire. Drinkable but not memorable. I’ve thought for years that WE suffers grade inflation and this just reinforces my belief.
