2015 vintage. This seems to be the second wine of Château Larrivaux, that also exists under another label "L'X de Larrivaux". Blend depends on the year, but always mainly Merlot, combined with some Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Amazing fact: since 1580 Larrivaux has been managed by women of the same family. The last generation is Bérangère Tesseron (her husband owns Saint-Estèphe Cru Classé Château Lafon Rochet). Éric Boissenot is the consulting oenologist. Merlot is dominant here, and they are going for very gentle extractions, resulting in a lighter (but by no means thin) Haut-Médoc that is fresh and smooth. It smells like crushed fresh berries (cassis, blueberries) and flowers. Juicy berries, soft tannins, subtle spices, mouth-watering acidity and more than decent length make this a perfect every day Bordeaux at 10 euros. Terrific value, I raise my glass to Bérangère and her predecessors!
