Château Latour
Grand Vin Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend
Pauillac, Médoc, Bordeaux, France

Perhaps it is a mark of my age when I find myself plotting on how to liquidate my ‘cellar’, or rather with whom I can share some unique wines. So I was lucky enough to share this bottle- which was originally gifted to me- with one of my best buds’ father- all of 91yrs-& his wife, both of whom I’ve known for at least 30+ years. A good time was had by all. Paired with simple roast chicken & small potatoes, & a green salad. Oh, and the wine: still going very, very strong, fruit forward even, with elegant tannic structure & acidity keeping that lovely fruit so fresh. Amazing how sweet & pure the fruit is. A Chidaine Chenin Blanc played the opening act, & would have received an encore if we we had another bottle.

Medium deep ruby , with quite narrow garnet rim . Really youthful colour . Quite deep and noble , with grafite , spicy blackberry , cassis , cigar box , cedar, touch of sous bois and oyster shell . On the palate this is serious and detailed , quite big and dense , tannic , but also perfectly balanced with fresh acidity . Compared to the Lafite served before , this is bigger boned , more imposing and denser on the palate. Grafite , cigar box , cassis and dusty sous bois . Mineral and detailed on the long finish with more grafite and cigar box. This is imposing and stately , though it’s never tiring and never looses its focus . Still pretty young , but with time in decanter shows pretty well , but surely it’s best days are still ahead . Better in 5 to 10 years and will last well a further 10-15 , probably longer .
