As close to a 10 as I’ve had. Full bodied, complex, depth, red currant, blackberry, sandlewood, cassis, hints of licorice, infinite finish 💥

Same nose as the ‘95 Forts but less pronounced. More powerful, mushroomy and floral on the palate, Indian spice, more cigar and black currant. In a perfect place.

A nose of pure cassis permeated by light cigar and graphite. Lighter weight than my limited recollection of aged Latours, it was nonetheless ethereal. Young. Blackberry and black-currant jam, lightly cedary minerality. Hints of red meat that made it a perfect match for rib steaks sous vide. Superb!

This 59 was Rocking and Rolling. Firing on all cylinders and showing gloriously. My contribution to this evening’s wine gluttony!!!!
It’s absolutely mind blowing how these wines can hold up and pass the test of time. Bravo to old world wine making!!

Cedar, tobacco, leather and red fruit. Far from maturity but delicious!

The end all be all of Bordeaux estates in my opinion. This is spectacular. My favorite wine of the entire trip. Decanted 2 hours before our arrival to the chateau. There is just so much power and beauty in the wine. Elegant was not something I was expecting from this estate but this was ethereal. The aromas were haunting of strawberry jolly ranchers and a sea of rose petals. Suave but firm tannins on the end let you know that this wine was birthed from gravelly soils along the Gironde. I absolutely fell in love with this estate when I was blessed enough to visit.

I was not blessed with the greatest birth vintage for Bordeaux (1991), but luckily my dear friend fared better (1989). Red currant, raspberry coulis, cedar, and graphite - the wine is still so fleshy, round and clean, nowhere near as tertiary as I'd expected going into the evening. It's structured, but also rather open knit after a quick decant. I hope to taste this Latour again in the coming years - as I believe it has many stories yet to tell. A special wine shared with even better company - there are worse ways to spend a Tuesday night.
