Night one at Bern’s, from deep in the cellar. Bottle is in great condition. Decanted and poured. Great color. Dark ruby center with clear rims. Translucent. Awesome nose. Notes of red fruit, cedar desk, dusty earth, Cuban cigar, cherries and some white pepper. Light on its feet at first but firms up nicely with air for a few hours, then plateaued before softening up later on. Really good showing.

1929 Chateau Lascombes. This was an inherited bottle from a family member. It had 25% of the bottle gone because of evaporation/ouillage, but it was probably over the hill, anyway. I had to empty it because the capsule was leaking, but the aroma—even after 85 years—signified that this was clearly a "grande dame". If only I'd gotten to it even 20 years ago...
