Such a beautiful wine on its own and with the Cover Ribs from Allen Brothers. Beautiful fruit and earth. Merlot from any other place barks up St. Emilion ass. Pardon my French. Crazy outstanding for the $25-$30 I paid upon release. @ChateauIsbel

Sipping Fine Wine

Deep Ruby with aromas of black fruits, spice and dried herbs. On the palate flavors of blackberry, currants and ripe cherry with cedar spice and forest herbs. Fine firm tannins, medium+ finish ending with fruit, cedar and earthy character. Good value!

It’s time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday.

Dark ruby in color with a reddish rim.

On the nose black plums, currants, oak, light vanilla, spices, dark chocolates, black pepper, herbs, tobacco leaf, earth and light forest floor.

Medium bodied with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with currants, black plums, cherries, tobacco, oak, green vegetables, chocolates, earth, herbs and black pepper.

Medium on the finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a tasty Merlot blend from Bordeaux. Showing nice complexity and mouthfeel.

I had this vintage a couple of years ago, and it is drinking much better now.

Good right out of the bottle, and better after 90 minutes of airtime.

A good food wine that I paired with cheeses and crackers.

A blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc. Aged for 16 months in (60% new) French Oak barrels.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

$30.

Very earthy/funky on the nose. Not much fruit, very tannic. 👎👍

Lovely, soft old gal with tons of fruit left in her. Bold summer berries on the approach that yield to sun-dried plums across a cocoa bridge.

Vintage 2010 / my favorite Castillon because it is so seductive in smell and taste. Deep colour, rich smell of cedar and pencil shavings, red summerfruit, velvety taste, satin alike. Roundness and pleasure, still that pretty tension of tannins but very accessible too. Paired with tenderloin. Great Bordeaux from small region.

The 2012 Joanin Bécot is dark, open and quite seductive. Black cherry, plum, spice and leather all meld together in a very pretty, gracious wine with soft contours to drink now and over the next handful of years. The 2012 is 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc. Jean-Philippe Fort is the consulting winemaker. This is a gorgeous wine that delivers superb quality as well as value. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous)
