Château Haut Cardinal
St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend

It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back!
Deep ruby in color with a reddish/ brick rim.
Medium plus in body with medium acidity.
Dry on the palate with nice complexity.
Showing currants, plums, cooked cherries, spices, oak, licorice, chocolates, tobacco, herbs, earth and light vegetables.
Short finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cranberries.
This 11-year-old Merlot from Bordeaux is a little unbalanced, but drinkable nonetheless. Elegant and complex, but lost some of its fruits by now.
Good right out of the bottle, and better after an hour of airtime.
I had this vintage 2 years ago and it is drinking a little better now.
A good food wine that I paired with pizza.
100% Merlot grapes from 70 year old vines, were aged in French oak barrels (70% new). A small production of only 9,000 bottles.
13% alcohol by volume.
89 points.
$35 (current vintage).

It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back!
Dark ruby in color.
Dry on the palate and bold.
Full bodied with medium plus acidity.
Showing red fruits with earth, tobacco leaf, herbs and green vegetables.
Big tannins on the finish with raspberries.
This 9 year old is a little unbalanced. I expected more complexity at this point, but I didn't get much.
Might need a few years in the bottle to mature properly.
Very drinkable and better with food. Paired nicely with fresh pizza with prosciutto and arugula.
13% alcohol by volume.
88 points.
$35.

Tried ‘16 & ‘17, not much different, 100% Merlot, unusual!!, deep Ruby color with simple aromas of red fruits and spice. On the palate of this simple wine flavors of blackberry and dried plum with baking spices. Grainy dusty tannins, medium finish ending with spicy oak character. A bit pricey! Drink now if you bought one by mistake!

2011. Licorice, some acidity. Strong flavor with a decent finish. Beef, lamb, flavorful meats with fat.

Strong tannins that take awhile to soften in a decanter and still has many years left on it. Strong acidity.

Drank 12/2/17 with grilled lamb. Nice pairing. Decanted 30 min.
Nice bouquet of currants, a touch of wood, and initially some petrol, which blows off after a few minutes. Black and red currants on the palate mingle with graphite and moderate tannin. Medium to full body with a long finish.
3/22/8/4/4 +50 = 91 pts. Ready to drink, but could age at least 5 years.
