Classy, elegant, terroir driven claret. We paired this with our first Donabe, and it worked... But I can't help thinking that it would have been better with a grilled ribeye. This is still young but the finish is already there- super long and mineral!

Cinnamon says that if any wine deserves 100, this is it. Astounding length, balance and true concentration in a package that never strays from medium bodied, dry and food friendly. Like any great wine, words don't do it justice. With ribeye, Emperess rice and asparagus.

Had this out of magnum six months ago. Tonight out of 750ml. While the wine is tasty, I preferred it from magnum. It was weightier and more complex. Better for the steak I'm about to enjoy. Tonight it is pure elegance. Very resolved tannins with lean body. The fruits are; dry blackberries, dark cherries, black raspberries, black plum and ripe juicy strawberries pull up the rear. Dry red florals, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon & vanilla, black tea, dark cherry cola, dry soft leather, tobacco with ash, underbrush, rich black earth, stones, near perfect acidity and a long lean, balanced finish that last a full minute. Steak pairing added the weight I was looking to get. Many critics shunned the 98 vintage but the micro-climate of Pessac out shinned the region as a whole.

Asparagus, green pepper, liquorice, tobacco leaves, violet, nutmeg, bay leaves, prune on the nose. Good structure, vegetal, med-high tannin, dark chocolate, still very young on the palate. 1998 vintage

So much better this weekend than last. It's the Ribeye. Sensational paring. Ripe rich dark cherries, black plum, blackberries, rich baking spices, rich sweet earth, sweet velvety leather, decayed red roses, sweet soft minerals, finishes with just a touch of cherry liqueur. Sweet and elegant fruit finish. For a 98, it falls into the amazing category. Many critics of the 98 vintage in Bordeaux but Pessac really shined!!!

Sadly an imperfect bottle. Good fruit concentration and elegant structure were both obviously present but tainted. There was some debate as to whether the bottle was indeed corked. After an hour or so the dissenters dissented. Looking forward to trying again sometime, hopefully in all its glory.
