Wotn. Topped he '94 Montrose, which was superb. This had everything. At a plateau, but no signs of imminent fading. Do they still make left bank Bordeaux like this?

Soft but alive. Underlying brett adds to the soft red fruits. Lovely with smoked brisket.

Dense, dark fruit nose. Rich text texture. Quite delicious.

Denser than the 78 , darker fruits , touch of mint and bit funky . Quite dense on the palate , slightly dry tannins , but better length than the 78 . Good balance and a bit more substance too . Improves with some air , drink now but get the impression this can continue on a few years more.

Slightly deeper appearance , medium garnet with a narrower bricking / garnet rim . More complexity on the nose compared to the 78 , more tobacco , dusty cedar and a mix of degraded blackcurrant and redcurrant , grafite . Good fruit on the palate still , that mix and red and dark fruits , grafite and tobacco touches . More presence and persistence on the finish than the 78 . Balanced acidity , slightly grainy quite dry tannins . Good to drink now and over the next few years , like the 78 not going to improve

Served from magnum. The 1979 Gruaud Larose is drinking beautifully. Light brick rim to dark ruby color. Just a touch of Bret in the nose but plenty of plum-like fruit. Nice acidity with plenty of fruit up front. Ripe. Soft tannins with nice lingering fruit in finish. Perfect now but will hold for several years to come. Drank on my 64th birthday with BBQ ribs. Great pairing.

Smells of green pepper and tastes of jalapeño pepper. Still very good for a 1979.

In double mag so might not be a fair reference point but earthy, pencil lead, dark cherry. Wonderful wine.
