1948 vintage. At Bonham’s restaurant. Very dark mahogany hue. On the nose, savoury, prune and chocolate, soy sauce, iodine and burnt caramel. On the palate, medium sweet - very integrated. Medium acidity - some VA showing. Medium body. Not a whole lot of fruit - savoury, iodine character. The finish is very unique in how it died quite rapidly, and then swung back a full 20 seconds after having disappeared, kicking in at the side of the cheeks. Not sure what to make of this as I suspect the bottle wasn’t a particularly fine example of the wine. Interesting is probably the epitaph for this specific bottle!
