Built for food! A good ten years of cellar life before it...although I must admit I’m not too sure whether that will expose some hidden surprises. Perhaps a little less cherry wood attack would be the reward. That said, if you smeared a NZ leg of lamb done on the spit with a garlic/pesto paste you won’t be worrying about the sweet woody cherry.

If I could pick only one wine, I would turn to the left bank Bordeaux. Here is an example of why: clean, dry, vibrant, intriguing, mineral, elegant yet very present and a phenomenal lingering finish. This beautiful wine from Saint Julien ha it’s typical softer well rounded tannins, dark red fruit of currant, red berry and perhaps dark pie cherry. Loved it and could stop sipping it.

Tart pie cherry and currants, infiltrated by nice earthy notes. Limited depth.

Delicious decanted. Will try to get a second bottle to age a few more years then compare!
