Château de La Tour
Clos Vougeot Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru Pinot Noir
The 2013 Clos de Vougeot Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru, picked from 5 October according to Pierre Labet, has a fragrant bouquet, fresher than many other tasted, pure raspberry and wild strawberry fruit, nicely integrated oak. The palate is less rustic than many others, finely balanced, with moderate depth and just a bit of hardness on the finish that one can easily abide. Lovely, though would I cellar long-term? Probably no. (Neal Martin, Vinous, October 2023)

The 2012 Clos de Vougeot Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru is fully mature on the nose, slightly earthy with light animal fur aromas. Fine lift. The palate is medium-bodied with a firm structure, impressive transparency and a slightly short, tart finish. But there is a breeziness to this Clos de Vougeot that is very seductive. Tasted at the Southwold Burgundy dinner at Hatched restaurant. (Neal Martin, Vinous, March 2023)

Mar 30th, 2023No. 3 in the Chambolle Musigny, Vougeot, and Flagey Echezeaux Grand Cru bracket. Tasted blind. Complete, well balanced, indulgent. Some peppery notes....Clos de Vougeot? Minerally, not much ripe fruit here, Hoisin. Those were my off the cuff notes at the time. I have always struggled with the fact that ALL of Clos Vougeot is classified as Grand Cru. If you have ever visited you will know that the plots on the lower flat near the highway are not of GC standard whereas the upper plots near the Chateau over the road from Musigny have no trouble reaching Grand Cru standard.

Jan 27th, 2020Wine No. 4 of 5 in the Echezeax/Vougeot lineup tasted blind. Another closed nose. Perhaps a longer decant could have helped. Savoury spicy and powerful. Could happily drink this now but has a great future. A good example as to why 2015 is so highly regarded.

Jan 19th, 2019Touch of bacon (oak) on first sniff. Quite luscious fruit which is needed to balance the oak. A rather opulent Wine which will need time for the parts to come together. Served #4
