Vieilles Vignes Châteauneuf-du-Pape Roussanne

In a great spot. Appears to have really shed some baby fat, the sucrosity of the fruit diminshing and the mineral and tertiary notes coming to the front. Lavishly textured, great length, a wonderful accompaniment to an array of vegetable dishes. Pineapple upside cake, roasted nuts, cooked yellow plum, marmalade, garrigue, cruahed stones, yellow blossoms, marzipan and honey, cream, olive oil.

So expressive on the nose. Apricot and tropical fruits for days. Nice texture and depth. Bravo

A note from last weekend at the Gold Coast. Initially too cool from the fridge so left it for 20 minutes. Mid to a deeper yellow in colour. Aromas of Apricot and Quince with a touch of honey. On the palate - quince, apricot, pear - a mouthful of deliciousness and a flavour explosion - low acid. Texturally it is unctuous with the blend being around 80% Roussane. These vines were planted nearly 100 years ago and comprise only 3 Hectares. Needless to say the quantities produced are small. Must locate more if I can find. In summary a stunning full bodied white wine.

From the old vines-fresh fruit, bananas foster, apricot hint of peach melba. Rounded with length and boldness all wrapped in smooth oak.

Unreal length. Extraordinary impressive legend of a wine. Essence of roussanne.

Honeysuckle. Full. Viscose. Terrific.

Not as developed and maderized as I would’ve thought but nice nutty aromas with orchard fruit and sunflower.

From 85-100 year old vines, the Vielles Vignes shows remarkable structure and character. A bright, stony vibrancy coupled with a broad, flowing lemon oil acidity. Citrus peel, peach pit, mango skin, perfume oils, acacia and orange blossom. Utterly delicious and constantly changing in the glass.

Coming to the end of its fruit phase. Probably will go dumb for 3-8 years. Will be quite stunning when it re-emerges.
