Drank with the '95 Ducru. Also very nice, but also would benefit from more age. Ducru came across richer and more open.

Monolithic, at a closed stage, almost impenetrable. Charcoal, roasted plum, burnt leather. Needs a long decant.

Still a muscular wine but relaxes after a short decant when available robust wine becomes elegant. Great drinking window. Tobacco, leather, currant.

Lovely earthy barnyard, cedar, grippy tannins. Lovely length and lingering complexity. I'd say at its peak.
