Vintage 2014 | this bottle gave everything I expected. And more. Cherries, leather, vanilla in smell. Round and supple taste, a Point, with food it became velvety. Paired with lamb and fresh capuchins. Combination made in heaven. Score for the wine, with food + 0,2. Happy!

Vintage 2014 | Nicely developed. True to type St Estephe. Three keywords: summerfruit, flint and powerful. | Paired with dry aged Côte de Boeuf.

Drank 8/10/20. Excellent with a prime ribeye.

The second half of this bottle holding up nicely after the first was removed via Coravin 2 m ago. Very nice dark fruit profile, with ample, but well balanced tannins. See my previous review.

Drank 6/15/20. Excellent with a porterhouse.

Nose of cassis, black currant, graphite, blackberry and plums. Flavors of blackberry, black licorice, plum, earth, and oak. Tannins are a bit firm, and may benefit from a few more years of age. Long, dry finish. This one should hold for another 10 years.

4/21/8/4/4 +50 = 91 pts.

I thought I'd try a new Bordeaux for the evening, and learned it is produced by none other than Château Calon Ségur! (Which by style doesn't surprise me.)

I know, I know. It is 2014. "Matt, why would you open full throttle Bordeaux so early?"

Because I can, and I had a long Monday. Deal with it.

Dark purple in the glass, and a slight amount of heat in the nose. The perfume is a composition of bell pepper, cedar, mushroom, and dried lavender. The pallet is intense and concentrated (14.5% ABV), with firm chewy tannins reminding me a bit of a barrel tasting of Mouton 2016.. Blackberry & black plum, vanilla, red apple skins, and black and green peppercorns to the dark chocolate finish.
I will say, for a $25 bottle of St Estephe, this has some major potential.. I would buy a case of this incredibly affordable wine, and lay it down for a few years.

Might have to do that...

Outstanding. Paired with prime dry aged rib roast. Cellared the bottle after purchase in 2016. Well with the wait. Velvety and fruity with lots of tannin.

Worried that I was killing a baby. This wine had opened up nicely and was giving off a powerful musk. Gunflint, graphite, and ample fruit. Very nice.

Super good drinking now and it has many years of life to go. Loaded with deep red fruits and soft tannins. Perfect with sturdy red meat or complex pasta dishes. 🍷🍷

Loved it. Let it sit for a few hours and it was super smooth.

Nice. Dark fruit with some licorice. Good tannins that opened up as you drank.
