Château Belair
St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend
Night two at Bern’s. A backup bottle to replace the 1907 LLC that had a flaw. Went with this choice for its high shoulder fill and great color. Light tawny reddish color. Clear rims with a deep color center in the glass. Fruit forward nose with notes of black and red fruit, some earth and some wood. With air it opened like the others. Decent structure. Good balance. Nice, solid wine for its age but nothing dramatic or exciting.

May 5th, 2019Very smooth. Hint of smoke, juicy plum, black cherry, and spicy blackberry on the nose. Rich berry, balanced, smooth, full structure. Chateau Belair Premier Grand Cru Classé is spectacularly sited, between Magdelaine and Ausone to the south of St Emilion, 60% on the limestone plateau and 40% on the clay-rich fronsadais molasses slopes, facing south and east. 2006 reveals fine fruit concentration and spiced notes, supported by ripe, firm tannins.

Sep 11th, 2014Shows the elegant vintage character, supple tannins and nice acidity. Good toasty oak marries well with red berries and coffee notes.

Mar 11th, 2018As I drink the wine, it's very obvious how it is old world by how much iron/graphite comes across the palate. Usually my tongue doesn't dry out from a wine more than my cheeks.. So that was cool! This was just opened at the perfect time. This is like on the peak of its peak and still has finesse to it. Acai berry on the nose and very limited on the palate. Tonight just totally changed my opinion on thinking Merlot was overrated and this wine was phenomenal.
