Château Barde-Haut
Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend
I am trying a St. Emilion Right Bank wine tonight. Not a real big Merlot fan but I like to try the Right Bank every now and again. This 2003 vintage was not a heralded vintage because it was a warm growing season and the grapes were picked earlier then normal. They do say that St. Emilion is one area that had better than average wines. On the opening this wine is very expressive with notes of black cherry, plum, Cassius, graphite and a nice creamy mocha. on the palate I am getting the black cherry again and the Cassius, licorice and some plumy fruit. There is medium tannin and a smooth silky long finish. I purchased this wine for $19.99 and it is drinkable now.

Jan 22nd, 2015Ripe fruits and good acidity. Lots of floral and jammy blueberry. Light menthol and crème notes.

Sep 4th, 2017Blackcherry cola on the nose, not over powering but present, with oak following Light weight mouthfeel, some violet and licorice, the tannins can be felt, and give the wine a lingering chalky finish. A bit one dimensional but all in all probably a good value for money. For all the Bordeaux rating hype, kind of a reminder you get what you pay for.
