The 2005 Ausone is magnificent. A wine of soaring intensity and class, the 2005 dazzles from the very first taste. The aromatics alone are captivating, with notes of cinnamon, mint, crushed rocks, blood orange, mocha and incense. Graceful and stately in bearing, the 2005 boasts tremendous purity and breathtaking balance. Readers will find a stunning Saint-Émilion that is just at the beginning of what promises to be a very long drinking window that will be measured in decades. It is a towering achievement from the Vauthier family. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, April 2021)

The 2016 Ausone is magnificent. Seamless and supple, the 2016 hovers with striking aromatic nuance and layers of finely-knit fruit that gradually open in the glass. A whole range of floral and citrus notes perk up the sweet red/purplish berry fruit, with hints of lavender, blood orange and jasmine that develop as the wine is in the glass. The 2016 is a bit reserved today, but it is unquestionably very, very beautiful. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, January 2019)

Incredibly layered and complex, powerful and intense with terrific integration of fruit and earth. Blackberry, cassis, damp earth and hints of smoke. Sensational now and can have decades to go.

Souring aromas here; just awesome. Dark cherries and plums, spice, wet stone, mineral and dark chocolate frame an elegant and beautifully balanced wine, worthy of its pedigree name. Needless to say, no magician on planet Earth can foster true greatness in vintages like this BUT only enviable estates are able to bottle THIS given the circumstances. It fails to broadening its mid-palate and tannins are already integrated, better love sooner than later. Bought on release. Note to self; one legendary vintage from here, please.
