The 1989 Angélus is a vintage that I have tasted multiple times from various formats. It remains one of my favorite of that era. Still quite deep in color, it has a glorious, almost hubristic bouquet of layers of lush black cherries, cedar, sage and meat juice aromas as it moves assuredly into its secondary phase. The palate has always been very harmonious and smooth, the tannins finer than preceding vintages. There is lovely grip here, and black truffle and smoky notes appear on the finish. A quite marvelous Château Angélus. Tasted at the château. (Neal Martin, Vinous, September 2019)

An aged beauty. First sips intriguing. Then it went dead for half hour to 45 minutes - then delicate and A perfumed nose- dried roses and raspberry - colour tending to brownish red - as expected. Still modest tannins and a long finish Elegant - a treat to drink.

1989 vintage. Ain’t getting any better but in a good holding pattern. So many subtleties in the nose that ultimately didn't follow through in the flavor profile. Elegance and class still shining through however. Analysis: Drink it up!

One of my favorite Bordeaux producers that came from an owc purchased on futures. Still very youthful with many years ahead showing red & black fruits with cassis & plum, cedar, leather, pencil shavings, licorice, touch of vanilla & tobacco.
