Dec 17th, 2018Ripe with a slight candied style of; blackberries, blueberries, plum, black raspberries. Black licorice, soft loamy soil presence, vanilla and dark fresh florals. The mouthfeel is fresh, M body & M+ tannins. Starts with ripe fruits of; blackberries, blueberries, plum, black raspberries but yield to heat lifting spices off the palate. Black licorice, dry crushed rock powder, cinnamon, clove, vanilla, violets and dry red rose petals, round perfect acidity and a lean, elegant, rich finish that is near Burgundian in style. Photos of; estate vineyard around the tasting room, Charles is a candle person and an old school phonograph player that brought back some childhood memories.

Aug 15th, 2017Oppulent, to say the least. Extreme purple floral essential oils. Black and blue fruit profiles with tons of creme de cassis and blackberry tart, blueberries, boysenberry jam, salted carmel, liqueur-like. Lots of vanilla, though this supposedly is French oak heavy. A wine that doesn't hold back, it's an action movie in a bottle, much like the label suggests. Wish it was more available and the market could understand it.

Aug 11th, 2020Yes, Charles Smith and his team also produce a really great Malbec. Pronounced blue and black fruits, hint of graphite, violets, cocoa and tar. Touch of vanilla on the long and slightly tart finish. This wine exhibits a nice freshness. Medium body and tannins with balanced acidity. Softens beautifully as it opens up. Revisited in November 2022. Wine is very close to its peak. Wine has softened nicely with time. Floral (violet) notes have intensified and this bottle offered an additional herbal note. Touch of menthol on the finish. Good stuff. Revisited again in May 2023. A bit past its peak.
